Hotels

When researching accommodations, be sure that the facility can provide you with proper access and safety.  It’s often helpful to arrange hotel reservations through partner hospitals or tour operators who specialize in disability travel.

Regardless of what resources you use for booking your hotel, make sure you have satisfactory answers to the following questions (whichever ones apply):

  • Does the hotel have wheelchair-accessible elevators?
  • Is the hotel desk staffed 24/7?
  • If required to use a refrigerator that is not in your hotel room, will you have sufficient access at all times?
  • If you have any dietary restrictions, will the hotel be able to accommodate you?  And if not, are there nearby facilities that can?
  • Does the hotel provide closed captioning and other types of amenities/perks designed for your particular disability?
Although we generally discourage travelers from staying on the first floor of hotels, depending on the nature of your disability, this might be the only option.  Understand, however, that rooms on the first floor don’t provide as much security as those on upper levels typically do.
