Check Any Relevant Insurance Policies and Restrictions

If you have health insurance and/or travel insurance, be sure to check the fine print before going on your medical tourism vacation.  Many policies have restrictions that make it difficult for those with disabilities to travel...even if that travel is for medicinal purposes.

Given the importance of proper insurance, you shouldn’t hesitate to consult legal counsel when going over your policies.  Make sure you thoroughly understand every clause in your policy.  An attorney can come up with a more exhaustive list of questions than we can, but some of the more important items to explore include:

  • Will your policy cover you once you leave the country?  This may seem like a silly question to ask (especially with a travel insurance package), but you’d be surprised at some of the restrictions that companies try to slip in.
  • Does your policy handle medical evacuations, emergency care, and various specialty services in the event of an accident or medical complication?
  • What types of travel restrictions apply?
Hiring a lawyer to help you with your insurance policies will necessarily add to the overall expense of your medical tourism vacation.  But this extra protection could make a tremendous difference in the long run.
