What Are Botox Injections?
Commonly used as an alternative to face lifts, Botox is the product name of the cosmetic variant, botulinum toxin. After applying a numbing cream to the affected area for 20-30 minutes, the patient receives regular injections throughout the face (varying according to the number and types of areas where it is required). These injections reduce or completely eliminate fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, neck, and forehead. They also reduce unsightly crow’s feet from around the eyes. Botox injections achieve this by blocking the nerve impulses, effectively paralyzing those muscles that are responsible for the appearance of wrinkles. The effect is temporary and so treatments need to be followed up at regular intervals. Â
Botox injections also create smooth skin tone, making the skin look more refreshed; a result that normally required expensive plastic surgery. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons acknowledges that some studies point out the effectiveness of Botox in relieving migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and neck or eye muscle spasms.Â
Injection points are selected prior to injecting the filler according to where the muscle contracts and an antiseptic is applied. The amount of Botox required to fill each line is determined beforehand by the doctor.Â
The results of the treatment are apparent within a week and the effects remain for approximately three to five months. Botox injections are one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the United States, particularly amongst women, aged 35 to 60. Medical Tourism Articles |
