Hi, Is there any connection between the consumption of alcohol and stomach cancer? By consumption I mean on the higher side, not wine with meals or the occasional drink.

While there is not apparently obvious connection between the consumption of alcohol and stomach cancer - alcohol definitely affects metabolism and causes immense damage to the liver. An alcoholic should be more worried about a liver ailment rather than the chances of developing stomach cancer. While stomach cancer cannot be ruled out - it is not frequently observed.

I heartly agree with busybee. Its your liver you have to look out for. Liver cirrhosis is the fatality that comes from excesses of drinking. Actually drinking hard water has more correlation with stomach cancer. But gastritis and cancer have been linked with binge drinking though the former is more common. Some reserach says that moderate wine driniking may reduce risk of gastritis and even cancer

Drinking at all should be restricted to social occasions and at times a small one in the evening only to release tension - but this more often than not may lead to a binging spree. So in order to take care of one's on well being discipline is a must. While medical aid can help cure damaged liver - prevention is any day better than cure and this can come only with DISCIPLINE!

Hi,
While alcohol is a real mood swinger ………..it also harms the body cells …. In case of a person suffering from ulcer in the stomach …. Continuous consumption of alcohol; could lead the ulcer to turn cancerous ….so look out……

Well, GOGO88,

Alcohol in moderation is said to be helpful, so rather than cut out alcohol to prevent an ulcer becoming cancerous, why not treat the ulcer and get rid of it in the first place? Would that not be a better alternative? Even without alcohol, the ulcer could cause havoc with ones health.
