artificial teeth in 80's 1 Year, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
My grandfather is 86 years old and four months back all his teeth were removed. Now he is facing problems in digestion and constipation, as he cannot chew his food. So we decided to fix artificial teeth for him? Is there any boundary for putting artificial teeth? Does anyone fix artificial teeth above 80’s. any suggestions?

Hello Zhuzhu,

There is no problem in fitting him for removable dentures. However, if you want permanent fixtures, then you have to see his health conditions, like is he diabetic, etc. Your dentist would inform you if it is not advisable, so visit your dental service provider.

Hi,
My grandmother had a beautiful set of shining white teeth even when she was 80 years – when she started loosing her teeth she got all her remaining teeth removed and went in for a brand new set of removable dentures. She was very proud of her teeth and would advise all her aging friends to go in for dentures……she was very comfortable with it………

Know what? - i really don't think you should think of going in for permanent dentures when he is in his 80s. The entire treatment is more of a hassle and he may not even be comfortable with it. Added to it is the fact that he may not need it. I have seen and known people with dentures - when over 80 prefer to keep them in tooth glass rather than inside their mouths! I also suggest you give him food which is well cooked and easily digestible.

Hi Guys,
Do have some compassion for the old … …...Do not try to confine them to liquid food … ….I know about my grandmothers urge for good food ………
Its all in the mind …….if an aged person feels that he needs dentures then get it for him………..respect his feelings.

Man great to know that at 86 some people have teeth for removal. I thought it fell off by then and you give atoothless baby grin. WEll my MIL who is 91 has dentures and she wears them while eating and then removes them SO why liquid food I cant understand. ITs more dependent on the comfort level of the elderly person involved. gOOD QUALITY ONES ARE ADVICED AS SOME DENTURE MATERIAL CAUSE ABRASIONS.
