Sorry to hear about that. Electonic devices are helpful as they make urinary muscles more strong. As per japanese medical research, 21% gets fully recovered with electronic devices treatment. 81% experience improvement of more then 50%.

Due to contraction of pelvic muscles and external urethral sphincter, this treatment leads to improved bladder control.

Your MIL should also contract her pelvic floor muscles. This a regular excercise for her and she will see marked improvement within few months.

you could also try some of these techniques to help her
Bladder Training: Bladder training means learning to delay urination after you get the urge to go. Start by trying to hold off for 10 minutes every time you feel an urge to urinate. Then try upping the waiting period to 20 minutes.slowly increase the time limit.
Scheduled toilet trips. This means going to the bathroom according to the clock rather than waiting for the need to go. this helps older people.
Pelvic floor muscle exercises. These exercises strengthen the urinary sphincter and pelvic floor muscles which help control urination.

hope these work out in your case.

I am a mother of two children and I am now 45 years of age. I too am embarrassed by a similar situation. If I laugh or sneeze or cough I am not able to have any control over my bladder and the urine seems to flow. Can anything be done about it?

Ola,
One of my close relatives is suffering from incontinece. She had a hysterectomy a few months before. Now the doctor says another surgey is required to fix the sagging muscles, which is causing the problem. I have read about the electronic devices in the previous posts. Can you give me the pros and cons of this device now that you may have a better information? Maybe the surgery can be avoided?

Well - it is unfortunately the case with many mothers. Embarrassing and sometimes even humiliating. Believe me you are not the only mother who suffers this at so young an age. What you can do is to do constant muscle exercises to build up your pelvic muscles. Diala has indeed given some valuable suggestions. You can also wear pads if need be so that you don't get embarrassed - especially in your work place.
