Infected Toenail 3 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0  
Hello,
The nail of my bigtoe has an infection under it. It is very painful, and the doctor has put me on a course of antibiotics. She says I will lose the nail. Will that be painful? And will the nail grow back?

Yes sometimes toe nails do get infected. This infection is caused by a fungus called onychomycosis. Good that you have commenced antibiotic treatment. Depending upon the severity of the infection you may have to continue the treatment for up to 6 weeks and sometimes more.
But rest assured - your toe nail will grow back.

Thanks, I have been prescribed pain killers along with the antibiotics, so I suppose the pain is going to continue till the nail falls off.
