I am not much of a food lover, but I like to know what I am getting into before I try something. You can't be too careful when travelling. I shall check out the website you suggested. Thank you.

Well malaysia has lot of ethnic communities and so there are various categories of malaysian food. The original population of malaysian have their own malay food. Malay food uses a main ingredient called belacan.

Famous malay dish is kangkong belacan. Rice is their main staple food as in most asian countries. In breakfast, the most popular dish in malay food is nasi lemak which is boiled rice cooked in coconut milk. I have eaten it and it is heavy on stomach !!!!!

Shrimp/prawn and fish are also popular in malay food generally served for lunch/dinner. Tuna and indian mackerel are 2 important fishes in malay cuisine. They love to eat grilled fish and grilled chicken. So you will see lot of road side stalls in malaysia offering you grilled fish which is grilled over hot charcoal.

If you can befriend a malay family and let them invite for lunch/dinner, then you can experience the real malay food.
