What are Bone Spurs and what causes them? My brother is an athlete and he is in pain now, and he says it is due to bone spurs.

Bone spurs are tiny damages in joints. Pain is caused due to bone spurs and difficulty in moving as your brother is experiencing.

Aging is a very common cause of bone spurs. But i guess your brother is young and tbone spurs are not caused due to aging.

Is he suffering from any form of arthirits like gout arthiritis?

Hi, My brother is otherwise healthy, his doctor has not said anything about arthritis. Are spurs some kind of growth on the bone ?

Yes Eestrada...they are sort of narrow growth formed on normal health bones. It is just an extra bone. Due to certain uncomfortable positions, bone spur can be irritating..for example..when that extra bone is rubs the other bones.

Well the good news is that both surgical and non surgical treatments are available for bone spurs. The non surgical treatment should be tried out first and if it does not heal satisfactory one must go in for the surgical option.
