Scan results in Pregnancy 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi,
My wife is pregnant, and had a scan as requested by the doctor. The results mention Grade 2 for the placenta, and blood supply and other factors are termed as normal. What is this Grade 2 and 3 etc? What does it signify?

Sometimes the placenta is too low in the uterus and it may cause problems for the uterus to grow and stretch. This condition is called placenta praevia and it is easily diagnosed by the ultrasound scan. Grade 2 placenta praevia is when the placenta reaches the cervix, but does not cover it. Your wife should be rested during her pregnancy. But if there is bleeding during pregnancy the doctor would advice complete bed rest so that the baby can grow to a size and age that will give the baby the best chance of survival.

My friend had a similar problem and I remember she was advised completed bed rest from the second trimester of her pregnancy. Now she has given birth to a healthy baby girl - but she did undergo immense hardship during the pregnancy because of the fact that it was risky for her to do any strenuous work. She was even advised not to stand/walk for more than 10 minutes.

You won't need a d&c, you not far enough along. Just wait, you may not be having a miscarriage. There's not really anything you can do while you're waiting for your scan results. Just take it easy. Sorry to correct you vicki, but she most probably WON'T have to have a d&c. I've had 8 miscarriages all under 10 weeks and didn't need a d&c for any of them.
