For severe arthritis - how will knee replacement surgery help? My mother is suffering from severe arthritis and the doctor has recommended this surgery? Presently my mother can walk with support - will this surgery help her to walk without support? Her ligaments in the knee area has weakened. Even if the knee is replaced - will she be able to build back the ligaments that had atrophied?

I am planning to take her to the Philippines. How soon can she come back home to the US after this surgery?

Knee replacement will help in case of severe arthritis….mainly it will ease the pain and make the person more mobile…….The ability to build back the ligaments will depend on her age and health condition…… physiotherapy also helps…….
She will require a month to 45 days before she can travel back to US after surgery.

While knee replacement is indeed a viable option - but after the surgery you cannot expect the knee to behave as before - in the sense - there may be less pain but the functionality of the knee is not 100% as before.

Personally I would not recommend a knee replacement surgery either. I have heard that its efficacy is still suspect and added to this fact is the cost of this surgery. See if there are any alternate methods that could help. You can also seek a second opinion - professional one i mean in this regard .
