Thyroid and miscarriage 1 Year, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi, I have had several miscarriages, usually aborting after the second month. Tests are inconclusive and they cannot find anything wrong. Can thyroid problems cause miscarriages? Can thyroid levels fluctuate causing problems and show normal levels in later tests?

yes...research have proved that thyroids deficiency can cause miscarriages in second month...hypothyroidism have an impact on pregnancy..the risk are 4 times more. Woman with overactive thyroid are also at risk (about 4 times more risk) to carry miscarriage then normal woman.

You need to mention thyroid to your doctor so that he/she do sufficient test.

Thanks for the confirmation. I can now insist on these tests before anything else.

My friend had similar problem ………she had 2 consecutive miscarriage – then it was found that she was suffering from abnormal blood pressure fluctuations – so then during her third pregnancy she was kept under continuous medical care……..Now she is a proud mother………

Hi,
Any abnormality in blood pressure, or blood sugar, thyroid, ect in the pregnant mother can affect the pregnancy. Doctors do these tests as a metter of routine, to catch it early and manage it. Some of the problems can kep you from becoming pregnant, ar lead to frequent miscarriage.

I agree with seeger. Once you have recurrent miscarriage then the doctor goes in for a battery of tests to determine the root of the orblem. In the first 13 weeks abortion occurs mainly due to some chromosomal aberration in the foetus. If thats not the case it could be a congenital defect with the mother, high blood pressure, harmonal imbalance, Diabetes, hypothyroidism and the like. You should get together with a good gyn and prepare and planthe ground for your next pregnancy. I have afriend who had a congenital uterine defect and could not hold the baby.. She has adopted now. But I also have another friend whos had nerely a harmonal imbalance which was taken care of and she is a very happy mother now. So heres to you becoming a mother soon
