I have developed unsightly warts in my neck and shoulder. They seem to be gradually growing and make me feel very self conscious. Would removing them be an expensive procedure. Also I would like to know if there would be any side effects if they are removed. I have heard that some warts and moles are cancerous. How would I know? Would the doctors perform any sort of tests before they are removed?

Warts are caused by viruses. Most art benign, but a few types can be malignant. Home treatment is not always successful, and the warts may return. In your case, since it is on the neck and shoulder, it is visible, so it would be better to get the right treatment instead of trying different remedies which may or may not work. So visit a dermatologist to get medications for your warts. If it is medications it would not be expensive, but if you need surgery it might turn out to be more expensive.

In fact a local beauty parlour advertises that it can burn away the warts. How safe would that be?
