I need more information about astigmatism...how it is cured?

Astigmatism occurs when the front of the eye or the cornea, has an irregular curvature.
Normally astigmatism is treated in the following ways:

If the degree of astigmatism is slight and no other problems like nearsightedness or farsightedness, are present, corrective lenses may not be needed. If on the other hand astigmatism is great enough to cause eyestrain, headache, or distortion of vision, prescription lenses will be needed for clear and comfortable vision.

Please remember that age is important here. If your freind is below eighteen, the cornea can change while he is still in the growing phase. In this case do not go in for any corrective measures that involve surgery, laser or conventional. The best course of action would be to use prescription lenses to overcome the problem.

Thank you – for the info ….My friend’s son is hardly 14 years of age. So as you said if there are chances of his cornea becoming normal by the time he is 18 …..We will leave aside corrective surgery for a while…..meanwhile his frequent headaches are a cause of worry to us ……..He has to always depend on pain killers ……Is there any alternative treatment to stop this type of headaches………
