Good day everyone!

I was alarmed just recently that my friend's father was diagnosed to have hyperlipidemia. It is so sad because our families are so close. I want to comfort my friend but just dont know what to say.. What are the underlying diseases that comes with this and is this disease fatal? What tests are usually done to patients having this?

Thank you so much.

you must be in a difficult time...
an excess of fatty substances called lipids, largely cholesterol and triglycerides, in the blood is called hyperlipidemia. it is also referred to as hyperlipoproteinemia.
to treat the condition, it is first necessary to treat the underlying medical causes that have resulted in the condition.
the biggest threat with this disease is the risk of coronary heart disease. but a proper lifestyle, dietary changes, exercise and medication can all help arrest the progress of the situation.

Basically like eco said the elevated fats in the blood stream is termed as hyperlipidemia. The main cause is a sedentary lifestyle and a rich diet without exercise. Introducing your friend's father to a therpeutic lifestyle with high fibre low fat dietr and regular exercise can not only help him . You can go for long brisk walks with him. It would help him and you would feel good too
