mid cycle bleeding 1 Year, 10 Months ago Karma: 0
Since the birth of my second child, normal delivery, I have been suffering from mid-cycle bleeding lasting between 4-8 days. there is no pain, only mild spotting. this is an almost regular feature. in the months that this happens, my cycle gets delayed by a few days. otherwise it is on time. i am 30 years old. my daughetr is two. the problem has been on for about a year and a half.
Could you please tell me why it is happening?
USG was done, but nothing conclusive was found.
Could you suggest any alternative treatment plan?

Hello isha,
Mid-cycle bleeding is most commonly due to fluctuations in the progesterone or estrogen. If either of these hormones drop below a certain level, breakthrough bleeding can occur.

Oral contraceptives can regulate these hormones and improve the breakthrough bleeding.

If problem persist you should discuss your case with your doctor.
bye

hi,
Thanks for the reply. But what are the side effects associated with hormonal imbalance and hormonal tablets, since I am not too keen to take oral contraceptives.

Hello Isha,
The ovaries produce the steroid hormones (estrogens and progesterone). They control the reproductive
function in females. Imbalances in estrogen, progesterone, or testosterone leads to many disorders such as infertility, problems with ovulation, menstrual problems, endometriosis, depression, anxiety, etc.

I understand your concern in going for contraceptive pills.Mid cycle bleeding also is caused in some persons during the time of ovulation(which i failed to mention earlier).

Any way my advice is, you should contact your doctor and get your hormone level checked to determine the cause.

bye.

Hi isha,

There are many possible causes for mid cycle bleeding they are :

-Uterine fibroids or polyps
-Injury or disease of the vaginal opening (caused by intercourse, infection, polyp, genital warts, ulcer, or varicose veins)
-Vaginal injury from malignancy, or from infection
-Dry vaginal walls resulting from lack of estrogen after menopause
-Pregnancy complicated by abortion (spontaneous or induced)
-Pregnancy complicated by ectopic pregnancy
-Fluctuation in hormone levels
-Stopping and starting birth control pills or estrogens
-Low thyroid function
-IUD use (may cause occasional spotting)
-Drugs such as anticoagulants
-Cervical conization or cauterization procedures
-Stress
Though you can rule out some of the causes on your own, a visit to your doctor as early as possible is advised.
