What is a contracted gallbladder?

Contracted gallbladder can occur in 2 cases.
1. In most cases, the gallbladder contracts after or meal or ingestion of fat. The gallbladder will contract after the meal/fat ingested contains a hormone that causes the gallbladder to become smaller.

2. In some cases, the gall bladder may be diseased (such as gall stones which may cause scarring). Scarring will cause the gall bladder to become smaller and the gall bladder will not function normally.
