Hi Add,

Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjunctiva (the outermost layer of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelids), most commonly due to an allergic reaction or an infection.

Conjunctivitis sometimes requires medical attention. The appropriate treatment depends on the cause of the problem. For the allergic type, cool compresses and artificial tears sometimes relieve discomfort in mild cases. In more severe cases, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications and antihistamines may be prescribed.
Bacterial conjunctivitis is usually treated with antibiotic eye drops or ointments that cover a broad range of bacteria.
Although there is no cure for viral conjunctivitis, symptomatic relief may be achieved with cool compresses and artificial tears. For the worst cases, topical steroid drops may be prescribed to reduce the discomfort from inflammation. Patients are often advised to avoid touching their eyes or sharing towels and washcloths. Viral conjunctivitis usually resolves within 3 weeks.i Add,

Hello Diva,

Regarding conjunctivities treatment there are natural remedies availble. So you can try these also.
Rinse your eyes with an eyewash made from a teaspoon of salt and a pint of water boiled and cooled before being put in the eyes, repeating this treatment every few hours.
Alternating hot and cold compresses to the eye area, with three to four minutes of the hot application, followed by 20 to 30 seconds of cold compression one to three times a day.

bye.

I would like to add on this

Aromatherapy is also another way of treating conjunctivitis. Using chamomile, lavander and rose oils help by doing a warm compress with a few drops.

For other home remedies of conjunctivitis, you may want to click http://www.health911.com/remedies/rem_conju.htm.

Good luck!
