Hi,
I have CHF and need to reduce weight. Can someone tell me the best way to reduce weight and keep it off? No crash diets, please!

The weight increase could be due to fluid retention. Physical exertions is an absolute no no. You should not even think of going in for crash diets which is very likely to do you more harm than good. What I suggest is go to a dietitian and discuss your problem. You will get a diet chart which you should stick to. Don't get too paranoid about it. While Congestive Heart Failure is indeed a heart problem you should be concerned about - knowledge is power which is why you should overcome this ailment with the power of knowledge. Knowing what is good for you and what is bad for you is the first and most important step. After that it is in your hands. Take care and stick to the advice the professionals give you. Good luck.

Ha…. Weight reduction is indeed an uphill task……. But now that you have no other option …. as suggested visit a dietician…… He will be able to prescribe you a diet that is less in calories… always remember dieting does not mean going hungry…… take care of your health…….. My father who is also having CHF ….is following this procedure….. he could shed a few pounds in the first month itself.

Hi,
I do have an appointment this week with the dietician, thanks. I intend to follow her advice, I have no other choice. I was hoping to get some real life experiences from people who have been through this.

Getting real advice from people who have been trough what you are going through is not easy even in a specialized forum like this. There are many who simply cannot be bothered to interact with the world at large and share their experiences! How easy life would be if this were the case!! But rest assured that the information provided here is authentic.

I would also like to add that - it is more of a request really - people who have undergone similar experiences or have been on medical tourism to any part of the world should share their experiences in this forum so that others can benefit from their experiences.

Tamara what you mean to say? Please dont use such harsh words.......I am new to this community but i think forum members who have more then 50-60 posts are going great job in helping people....


Weight loss for man will have a different technique. First thing in weight loss goal is mental preparation...write your goal on a small piece of paper and keep that piece of paper with you , always. You need to undergo real sacrifices to loose your weight.

Please monitor weight, BP on daily basis...infact keep a diary to monitor your performance.. it is helpful to stay on track if you are monitoring it and writing it down


Cut out all snacks between meal...this single step will help you in a big way to achieve your goals.


Eat healthy and balanced diet like take protien stuffs like chicken, fish, some carbohydrate stuff like pasta, bread (before 5 PM) and daily take fruits and vegetables since they are rich in fibre.

Lastly, along with diet, burn off calories by walking, jogging etc.

For reducing weight there is a need of physical exercise and lot of movements of body.. generally weight increases due to less body movements so you can join gym if your work has less movements and you initially have to reduce your diet but later on you continue your same diet...

It depends how much you want to reduce and at which speed..

If you want to reduce weight early then you must work hard , do jock daily , work out in gym daily and just do not take calories...

You can opt for either Liposuction or Lap Band Surgery to reduce your weight.

As you have seen above there are numerous ways of losing weight. But there is one things very important that many have not pointed out - Determination - This is the only thing that is going to see you through. More than 90% of the people who have started on weight loss programs never finish them - the reasons could be many - laziness, lack of perseverance, starting off on a rigorous schedule which they could not keep up - and things like that. Yes folks - Determination is the key here!
