What is the best way to reduce weight if one is suffering from osteoporosis. Walking exercises are ruled out. Would an exercise bike help? My friend wants to strengthen her thigh muscles and calf muscles to provide strength to the bones. She is just over 50 and is rather overweight.

Since you mention osteoporosis, and walking exercises being ruled out, you are probably trying to avoid exercises with stress on bones. In this case an exercise bike would not help either. You need to consult a specialist trainer and physiotherapist, who can recommend exercises that would suit your problem. I am no expert at this, so I rule myself out.
