incontinence 5 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
I am a 25 year old mother. I gave birth to twins - normal delivery and they are now 6 months old. But ever since I was delivered off my babies I am unable to control the flow of urine when I cough or laugh - this is really embarrassing - is there anything that can be done to help me. Should I go in for plastic surgery to strenghten my abdominal muscles? Please help me.

It can happen after delivery. You must consult a specialist who will ascertain the cause of the incontinence, and prescribe treatment or surgery if required. Surgery may not be required in all cases.

You're suffering from a form of urinary incontinence known as stress incontinence.

Normally, your nerves, ligaments, and pelvic floor muscles work together to support your bladder and keep the urethra closed so urine doesn't leak out. Overstretching or injury to these areas during pregnancy or childbirth can cause them to stop working properly.

Stress incontinence is a common complaint among pregnant women, and some find that it continues to plague them after they have their baby.

Hi I am a young mother too and I too had the same problem. Just ask your doctor or a physio to teach you a few exercises to strengthen your pelvic, abdominal and thigh muscles exercises. Keep at it and you will soon be able to have control over your bladder. All the best
