Hi,
I have a small pustule like projection on the edge of the left lower eye lid. Is this wht is referred to as a stye? It is very painful, and its the second time in about 3 months. The last time it went away by itself after it burst. Does it need any treatment, or let it take its course?

Yes it could be - They are caused due to an infection caused by staphylococcal bacteria. Sometimes the oil glands around teh eyelashes clog either inside the eyelids or around the eyelashes. You can apply an antibiotic ointment - this will make your stye disappear quickly.

Thanks, this time also, it seems to be subsiding. I shall see a doctor and get an ointment prescribed, so that I can treat it at the beginning if it comes again.

A warm compress or even gently massaging the area around the stye as it is developing can help early curing. But be careful not to prick it - this may spread the infection.

I was just looking for information connected to stye in the eye. My son who is a 14 year old - is very prone to this. Why is that so? He get a stye and then it subsides - very soon he gets another one - this is worrying especially because it is the eye and it keep recurring!

It could be perhaps the infection is still there - it may be have been controlled because of the medicines given - but the medicines are stopped the infection crops up - the best thing to do is to consult a doctor and may a very strong antibiotic could be prescribed to completely get rid of the staphylococcal bacteria.
