Mitral Valve Prolapse 1 Year, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
What happens in mitral valve prolapse? My dad is diagnosed with it. What would be the best treatment for it and which country offers a good treatment package for it? Is it hereditary?

Hi ArTur,
It is a condition whereby the flaps of the valve thicken, and do not close properly, leading to a leakage of blood during contraction, within the heart. Usually, it does not require any other treatment than a careful diet, and sometimes some medication. You can check out the following link for more information :

If your father does need surgical treatment, and can travel, India is a very good place where you can get excellent medical care at low cost.

Hi,

First of all - Are you know what is Mitral Heart Valve?

The mitral valve is one of four heart valves. The mitral valve controls the flow of blood between two chambers of your heart called the left atrium and the left ventricle. Normally, blood flows in one direction across the mitral valve - from the atrium to the ventricle.

mitral valve prolapse, the flaps of the mitral valve do not seal properly. One of the flaps (also known as a leaflet) moves back into the atrium when the heart beats. This prolapse can let blood flow from the ventricle back into the atrium as shown in the anatomy of the heart.

To know more on mitral prolapse,

I am also agree with previous answer. India is good for treatment.

Mitral valve is a structure in the heart which is between the upper chamber on the left side of the heart (left atrium) and the lower chamber on the left (left ventricle). The mitral valve opens when the lower chamber is resting, allowing blood to flow in, and then closes as the left ventricle contracts, preventing blood from going backwards. Mitral valve prolapse is a common condition, occurring in up to 20% of the population. Is more common in females, in those who are tall with long arms and legs, and tends to run in families. In most cases, it is quite benign. I like to compare it to being double-jointed, a case in which the joint itself is perfectly normal, but the supporting structures are lax, and allow the person to obtain unusual, but not dangerous, positions.

If you are looking for getting treatment for your father you should choose India as it became a tourists attraction center for a decades and on the other hand, there are lots of good hospitals and surgery center that provided affordable medical facilities without any time frame.

What are the symptoms for this? How do you know if that is what you have? I have a persistent cough too.
