How many days in Istanbul, would be suggested to see the local sights. I may want to take a day trip also to the surrounding area (any suggestions?).

3 days are enough...just book yourself in one of the city tours for around $ 45 and it is great..within 1 day, they will show you major landmarks.

3 days are not enough. I think you need 1 week to have a good view of the city
