Diabetes can cause neuropathies, and arthropathies that can affect the bones and joints. You can get more details from the following website.

If you have diabetes, you're at increased risk of various bone and joint disorders. Factors such as nerve damage (diabetic neuropathy), arterial disease and obesity may contribute to these problems — but often the cause isn't clear.

One can prevent the deterioration of bones if one has diabetes. In fact even those who aged 40 and above who don't have diabetes but whose family history shows diabetes, one can start by taking extra caution by not only trying to only prevent the onset of this ailment, but also take care of bone deterioration by taking in extra calcium and calcium absorbing food or medicine. I certainly know of one person who has done this and who is now in his early sixties with controlled diabetes and strong bones and joints.
