Something for Everyone

Unlike some of its more staid neighbors, the Kingdom of Thailand has, over the years, developed its entertainment industry to rival the best on the planet.  From the gaudiest bars and the noisiest discos to the most up-market restaurants, this country has something for everyone.  You don’t have to be an oil-rich sheik to have a good time here - pubs, discos, and restaurants are all relatively inexpensive. 

The Amsterdam of the East

For sheer variety, energy, and enthusiasm, it’s hard to find a more vibrant city than Bangkok, Thailand’s thriving capital.  There’s an unexplainable buzz about this city, much like Paris in the 20s.  The city’s nightlife goes beyond just the infamous Go-Go- bars with their friendly hostesses.  There’s a thriving club scene, and rock shows by local and Western bands are a regular part of Bangkok’s nightlife calendar.  You can catch the latest Hollywood flick at a nearby cinema or take in one of the many acclaimed cabaret shows.  Although the city has a reputation for being something of a “sin center,” you can rest assured that much like Vegas, “what happens in Bangkok stays in Bangkok!” 

Party on the Beach

The partying flavor changes distinctly as you head towards the islands and beach cities.  It’s noisier, rowdier, and more gregarious in spirit.  Patong, it would seem has one pub for each and every tourist who visits. Well, maybe not exactly one for each, but it certainly does seem that way!  There are so many of them. Phuket’s nightlife is more “real” and a far cry from Patong’s all out assault on the senses.  Most of the bars and nightclubs here are packed from wall to wall with revelers and have local bands who dish out the latest Top 10 chartbusters (“latest” here is from three years ago) and remixed Thai folk music.  Pattaya’s night spots range from bawdy transvestite shows to more refined cultural entertainment.  The best feature of Thailand’s nightlife is how cheap it is to get sloshed here – order a ‘set’ that includes spirits, ice, and mixers and split among a group.  Just a couple of hundred baht later you’ll be swinging from the chandeliers!
