Phuket boasts of a vibrant and colorful nightlife that has helped make this exotic island the preferred beach destination for anyone traveling through the country of Thailand.  There are two main areas where party animals gather, and both are as different from one another as apples and oranges.  While the nightlife in and around Patong tends to be wild and raucous, you can expect a more genteel atmosphere in Phuket City.  Discos and nightclubs here shut down by 2.00 am while most pubs and bars close by 1.00 am.

Serious Advice about Nightlife in Phuket

The general impression about Phuket is that there are plenty of available women here, which is not exactly true.  Thais love to party and on a typical night out, you might find plenty of girls enjoying themselves with friends.  Although this is not to say that it is impossible to find ‘ladies of the night’ in Phuket.  As a broad rule, if the lady in question is provocatively dressed and assertive, chances are she is there for the money.  Most are freelancers, so one does not have to pay a ‘bar fine.’  Also bear in mind that not all attractive “girls” here are females.  Many beautiful “ladies” in Thailand are actually transsexuals (katoeys) and transvestites.  Caution is advised.  That stunner you’re planning to leave with might be more “endowed” than you bargained for!  

Phuket has a wide variety of pubs, bars, nightclubs, go go bars, and restaurants to choose from.  The majority of the infamous go go bars are in the Soi Seadragon and Soi Eric neighborhoods. Other popular haunts here are the Thai-style bars and pubs.  These play loud music and are crowded with revelers letting their hair down. Many party places have live bands that perform on specific days of the week.  The choice in food and drink is vast and lends itself to great experimentation. Nightlife in Phuket promises to be an enjoyable experience - just go with an open mind, and always practice safe sex.
