Overview
South Africa offers a veritable feast for the senses for every medical tourism traveler who visits. There are miles of powder soft beaches, some of the most exotic wildlife, world-class wineries, bustling international cities, historical museums, and dozens of cultural experiences that take you to a world away from your own.
Kruger National Park
One of the world’s most renowned wildlife parks, Kruger gives you a glimpse of what people call the “real” Africa - dry weather, thorny bushes, and of course, the Big Five – Buffalo, rhino, lion, elephant, and leopard.  Attractions are not restricted to the Big Five, however majestic they may be. There are luxury lodges with spas and mountain bike trials. And with over 20,000 square kilometers of game-infested reserve to explore, it’s safe to say you won’t tire of Kruger any time soon.
Cape Town
Cape Town regularly features on lists of the most beautiful places on earth to holiday in, and when you visit this gorgeous city on your medical tourism visit, you’ll soon see why. There is a majestic mountain, a popular national park, beautiful beaches galore, besides cultural attractions, and more. Head to the Predators Exhibit at the Two Oceans Aquarium, and watch divers feeding sharks. The Diversity Hall has a selection of assorted creepy crawlies, including octopuses and jellyfish, while dancing seals entertain visitors at another section of this aquarium. Visit the Alcatraz of South Africa, Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for 27 years.Â
Durban
One of South Africa’s most vibrant cities is shedding some of its skin, as old warehouses and buildings are razed down to create apartment complexes and hotels. Yet the city offers a multitude of cultural experiences for the medical tourism traveler. Schedule a visit to a cultural township out of the city where you can watch the way the Zulu people continue to live with many of their traditional practices still intact.
Apartheid Museum
Located in Johannesburg, this museum does a spectacular job of tracing the country’s long and painful journey from oppression and extreme prejudice to democracy and a new world. There are audio video recordings, accounts of those who survived the anti-apartheid struggle, as well as photographs that document one of the defining struggles of the 20th century.
