Climate in South Africa

Overview

South Africa is blessed with ocean on three sides of the country.  This, plus its subtropical location, gives the country the warm climate that sun worshippers around the world crave.  The area around the Cape, which has a Mediterranean type of climate, sees rainfall during winter, while the rest of the country receives showers during the summer.

Seasons

Summer in most of the country begins in October and continues though February.  The weather is hot and sunny, and the days are frequently punctuated by sudden thunderstorms.  

Autumn begins in February and continues though April, and is one of the best times to visit this country.  There’s very little rainfall, and the days are warm but not too hot.  The weather is especially gorgeous on the Cape where the evenings turn balmy after a lovely day. 

Winter in South Africa lasts from May to July.  The days may not get too cold, but the nights are definitely nippy.  The Kwa-Zulu Natal area offers the best winter experience for medical tourism visitors to South Africa.  There’s little rain, the nights are cool, and the days are sunny and warm.  Spring is when the Cape truly bursts forth in all its glory.  Dozens of varieties of colorful flowers carpet the plains and lure hordes of visitors from around the world to the Namaqualand, where the iridescent displays are especially beautiful.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit the country depends on the kind of activities you plan to indulge in on you medical tourism holiday.  For instance, if you’re looking to engage in water sports, visit during April though September.  With plenty of sunshine all year round however, those are not the only months you can engage in diving and surfing.  Summer is the best time to soak up the famed South African sunshine, although this is peak tourist season, and the beaches will be crammed.  If you want to catch a glimpse of some of the country’s most famous inhabitants while you’re here, schedule your medical tourism trip during the prime game-viewing months of September and October. Â
