Getting Around in Singapore
A medical tourism vacationer in Singapore can choose from myriad options when traveling around the city. There is an extensive network of buses, cabs are abundant (during the day), and the ultra modern MRT or Mass Rapid Transit is one of the most efficient on the world.
Buses in Singapore
Buses ply the streets of Singapore from 6:00 am till midnight. The E-z link card can be used for frequent journeys making it the perfect option for medical tourism enthusiasts who want to hit the major malls and museums. Buses, although comfortable tend to be slower than other modes of transport. The air conditioned SIA Hop-on, a tourist bus service, covers 23 popular tourist destinations. SIA Hop-on buses are available at 30 minute intervals from 9.00 am to 7.30 pm.
Singapore Taxis
The streets of Singapore are serviced by approximately 15,000 air-conditioned taxis, making it easy for you to find one on your medical tourism vacation. Taxi stands are located outside all major hotels and shopping malls. These are safe, convenient, and an affordable way of getting around the city. However, when the nightclubs fill up, you might have difficulty finding taxis since most drivers tend to stick to day schedules. Avoid car rentals. They are far more expensive than in other cities, and parking isn’t always easy to find.
Mass Rapid Transit
The MRT is a cheap way of travelling around Singapore with ticket costs starting at SGD 0.80 and going up to a maximum of SGD 1.70. MRT stations dot the city along 3 primary lines. These are the East-West line from Changi Airport/Pasir Ris to Boon Lay, the North-South line from Marina Bay to Jurong East, and the North-East line from Harbour Front to Punggol. Trains arrive at intervals ranging from two and a half minutes to eight minutes between 5:30 am and 12:30am every day of the week.
