Weather in Warsaw

Overview

Poland has a reputation for being a cold and dreary country where the sun rarely shines.  Its cultural and financial capital Warsaw, however, enjoys a milder and more temperate climate.

Seasons

Winter in Warsaw is more bearable than in Krakow or Gdansk.  However, temperatures can still drop to -20 degree C (-4 F).  The cold wind begins to blow in during the end of November, and temperatures stay low till the middle of March.  Warm clothing, including gloves and stockings, are an absolute must if you are visiting Warsaw for your medical tourism vacation during this time. Spring begins in the end of March and continues through May.  Temperatures can fluctuate wildly during this time, from sunshine filled days in March to snowy ones in April, with intermittent rainfall throughout.

Summer begins around late May and can be surprisingly hot.  Temperatures can often touch 30 degrees C (86 F), especially in the hottest months of July and August.  The weather begins to get pleasant again in September, when the leaves begin to fall.

Best Time to Visit

As befitting the capital of one of the most promising economies in Europe, Warsaw’s calendar is packed with international class events and expositions throughout the year.  If you visit during March, brace for the intense celebrations in preparation for the Lent season.  Poles believe in eating well, drinking copiously, and generally having a great time before the beginning of Lent, making for a fun filled medical tourism vacation.  This is also when the Topienie Marzanny, or the Drowning of Marzanna, marks the end of winter, with Poles symbolically “drowning” the winter witch.  The Beethoven Easter festival, in honor of the legendry composer, takes place in April.  The Warsaw Chamber Opera hosts the Mozart Festival in June, while the Lazienki Park resounds with the music of Chopin during the annual summer concerts honoring Poland’s beloved son.  The Warsaw Film Festival rolls around in October, while the city is decked in a multitude of lights during the December holiday season.  No matter when you visit Warsaw on your medical tourism trip, you will find an event to enthrall you.
