Overview

There was a time when the idea of a shopping trip in Warsaw would have conjured images of state-owned emporia and rustic markets where Polish women in scarves tried to make ends meet.  The fall of communism, however, transformed the city's shopping scene as shrewd shopkeepers rushed in to take advantage of the people's newfound appetite for the fruits of capitalism.  Fashion boutiques, music shops, antique stores, and malls quickly began to sprout on the city's landscape.  Not all of the first stores have been able to survive the onslaught of competition, both from home as well abroad.  The current shopping scene is a nice mix of international as well as local brands, luxury products, and day-to-day Polish goods.

Shopping Districts

The city's boutiques stock international labels side by side with Polish designers. The best clothing outlets can be found along Marszakowska and Al. Jerozolimskie.  The city's answer to the Avenue Elysee is Mokotowska, an upscale shopping street lined with uber fashionable boutiques, galleries, antique stores, elegant home furnishings emporia, and an occasional restaurant.  During your medical tourism sojourn, head here for creations from the best of Paris and Milan in addition to designs produced by emerging Polish stars on the fashion scene.

Markets

Head to the Basat na Kole in the western part of Warwaw for some of the largest collections of art, antiques, CDs, and War memorabilia in the city.  The Dziesieciolecia Stadium hosts a large Russian flea market with everything under the sun including, house ware, cooking utensils, paintings and sculptures, and loads of other items.  The prices are dirt cheap (and negotiable), and you'll get a chance to really interact with local shoppers.
