Plastic Surgery Not Just for Breasts
When most people think about plastic surgery, they usually picture common procedures like breast augmentation, tummy tucks, or face lifts. Most don’t realize that some types of dental care can also be considered plastic, or cosmetic, surgery. Dental crowns are one example. They enhance the appearance of people’s smiles by removing gaps created by pulled or lost teeth. The right set of crowns can transform a smile from toothless to tempting in just a few…
Overview
Mexico will take your breath away on your medical tourism holiday – whether it’s at the site of an ancient pyramid built much like its Egyptian counterpart to honor the dead, or dozens of feet underwater at some of the most beautiful coral reef formations in the world.Â
Museums
The capital, Mexico City, is home to a fine selection of museums and performing arts venues. The National Museum of Anthropology, considered by history buffs to be one of the world’s best museums, has collections of ancient riches that cover more than 3000 years of the country’s history. The Palacio Nacional features a series of striking murals by the great artist Diego Rivera that portray the history of this medical tourism hub. The Museo de Templo Mayor is part of an Aztec archaeological site, with close to 6000 exhibits on display.Â
Archaeological Sites
The ancient city of Chichen Itza was, during it’s hey day, the center of all political and military power in the Yucatan region. The city had an abrupt and violent end, although nobody knows for certain why the city was suddenly evacuated. The main attraction here is the El Castillo Pyramid where at every equinox, an incredible play of sunlight and shadows creates an illusion of a serpent slithering down the pyramid, from the peak right down to the ground. It’s hard to be unmoved by the kind of astronomical and engineering mastery that made this spectacle possible.Â
On the outskirts of Mexico is the ancient settlement of Teotihuacán, one of Mexico’s most visited attractions, dating back to 150 BC. For all its proximity to the capital, this incredibly well preserved city complex echoes with the memories of days past. The impressive Pyramid of the Sun is the third largest in the world, and the nearly 4-kilometer long Street of the Dead is fringed by palaces and temples. Like Chichen Itza, the end of Teotihuacán seems to have come without warning, and it was a ghost town by the time the Aztecs arrived here. Â
For more gems from the past on your medical tourism vacation, head to the Mayan city of Ek Balam. Located north of Valladolid, Ek Balam encompasses 45 impressive structures. There is an acropolis, a palace, temples and altars, proving that this was a very influential Mayan city.Â
