  • Plastic Surgery Not Just for Breasts

When most people think about plastic surgery, they usually picture common procedures like breast augmentation, tummy tucks, or face lifts.  Most don’t realize that some types of dental care can also be considered plastic, or cosmetic, surgery.  Dental crowns are one example.  They enhance the appearance of people’s smiles by removing gaps created by pulled or lost teeth.  The right set of crowns can transform a smile from toothless to tempting in just a few…

Overview

Residents of Mexico City like to think their city is the New York of the country, and rightly so.  There’s enough happening here to excite the most seasoned and adventurous medical tourism traveler, and most of it is available at some of the best prices on the planet.

Dance and Music Clubs

The Polanco neighborhhood has always been the place to go to shake a leg and down some tequila in this medical tourism center.  Now, a host of other trendy hubs are giving it a run for its money.  Chief among these upstarts are the Condesa and Roma neighborhoods, which project a trendy vibe, not unlike New York’s SoHo.  The San Angel area is another magnet for the footloose, although it’s a good drive away from the center of the town.  Also, check out the Lomas neighborhood for some throbbing clubs and happening bars.

For those whose vision of nightlife is low key and languorous, the Garibaldi Square area is the perfect place to relax after a long day.  Costumed Mariachi bands wander around the cafes here, ready to strum their guitars and belt out full-throated Spanish melodies for a modest fee.  It’s a delightful experience, but always go in a group and never alone – the area has begun to attract more than its share of crime.

If you’re lodged at a five-star property, the bar in your hotels will often have live performances each evening.  The city also has a thriving theater, opera, and ballet scene, widely considered to be one of the most sophisticated in the world.  The Folkloric Ballet of Mexico presents musical and dance recitals, featuring performers in traditional costumes.  The Ballet has toured widely all across the globe, and you can catch them in all their glory in this medical tourism center at the Palace of Fine Arts.

Traditional Venues

Historically, macho Mexican society has chosen to drown its sorrows in stark bare venues known as cantinas.  These bars offer free nibbles, a lunch menu, drinks, and feature mariachi singers, walking around the tables, strumming popular tunes.  Most of these establishments have been forced to close down in the craze to build the latest hip eatery or night club, but there are still a few of the old cantinas left in Mexico City.  Female medical tourism visitors may feel a little out of place – these tend to be mainly male preserves where cowboy types throw back a few and unwind.
