Climate in Mexico

Overview

With notable exceptions, the broader climate in Mexico can be divided into two – the dry season that begins in November and continues through June, and the rainy season which begins in June and continues through November.  The weather in Mexico City is mild and dry, with cooler mornings and warmer afternoons.  You can expect afternoon showers during the months of July and August here, but these rarely last more than a couple of hours.  Baja California however has warm weather throughout the year.  Cities like Tijuana, Mexicali, San Lucas Cape, and La Paz are very hot with high humidity levels.  In mountainous northern Mexico, you can experience freezing temperatures during winter which begins in December and continues through March.

Southern Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula are covered with thick forests, and the weather here is characterized by high temperatures.  The popular beach resorts of Cancun and Acapulco are located in this geographical area.  If you’re planning to visit these resorts on your medical tourism holiday, know that the weather is very hot throughout the year.

Best Time to Travel Mexico

The dry season is also the official tourist season in Mexico.  Tourist attractions are overcrowded, and accommodation and recreation facilities are not just overbooked, but they are also overpriced.  To get the best deal on your vacation, visit during the off peak season.  Off peak dates are those that fall outside the holiday season, between major holidays, and after festivals.  If you plan to visit a beach resort during your medical tourism vacation, avoid the time that falls during spring break at American colleges.  The beach resorts are filled with vacationing students from across the border.

Generally, the weather in Mexico is sunny enough to make a trip there at any time of the year an enjoyable prospect.  If you're anxious to avoid the crowds and high prices, however, you might consider planning your vacation during the rainy season.
