Petaling Street

Kuala Lumpur’s version of Chinatown with its exotic sights, smells, and sounds is also one of its biggest attractions.  A portion of the street is closed off most nights, and the entire area turns into an open-air bazaar.  Set aside an evening on your medical tourism vacation to walk through the seemingly endless miles of stalls, featuring everything from toys to counterfeit watches. Bargaining is expected.

Petronas Towers

These twin towers, the world’s tallest free-standing twin buildings, have in recent years become an iconic symbol of the city itself.  The two towers stand at a height of 452 meters each and are joined at the 41st and 42nd floors by the sky bridge, which also happens to be the highest bridge in the world. Entrance to the building is free, but is restricted to 1700 visitors a day, so make sure to be at the start of the queue in the morning on your medical tourism holiday.

Masjid Jamek

The Masjid Jamek or Friday Mosque was built in 1909 along the lines of the Mogul mosques of India. It was constructed symbolically at the exact spot where the city of Kuala Lumpur was established, at the convergence of the Klang and Gombak rivers.

Lake Gardens

This is one of Kuala Lumpur’s oldest and largest parks with lush vegetation, winding paths, and a beautiful placid lake.  For a more extensive view of the gardens on your medical tourism vacation, take a boat cruise on the water. The park also includes orchid and hibiscus gardens, a bird park, a butterfly farm, and the Pangung Anniversari where cultural performances and music concerts are held.

Sultan Abdul Samad Building

Built to house the administrative offices of the British in 1897, this stunning building was constructed using the principles of what is known as Mohammedan architecture– elements of Indian Moslem structural design, mixed with Gothic influences.  Currently, home to the country’s Supreme Court and High Court, the structure remains one of the country’s most photographed buildings.
