Partying in Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur’s buzzing nightlife scene is one of the best in Asia, although the 1 am closing time can be a bit of a dampener. Some clubs, however, manage to stay open until 2 am or later. Malaysia is a predominantly Moslem country, but alcohol is easily available in its capital. From fashionable lounge bars to crowded pubs to some of the best clubs in Asia, Kuala Lumpur offers the medical tourism visitor a varied range of entertainment options.
Bars and Pubs
You’ll find many pubs open for business during lunch time in Kuala Lumpur. Most bars have a designated happy hour, which is usually between 5 and 7 in the evening. Most of the best watering holes in Kuala Lumpur are concentrated in Bangsar and the Golden Triangle, where the five star hotels have English-style pubs and bars.
Clubs
The best clubs are located on the outskirts of the city, and the vibe is very fresh and youthful. These clubs tend to attract a mainly local teenage clientele. If you’re looking for a place closer to the city center, then your best bet is one of the dance clubs that are tucked away inside the five star hotels.
Nightlife Districts
The Jalan Sultan Ismail-Jalan P Ramlee stretch has emerged as the center of all nightlife and entertainment action in this medical tourism capital. Most foreign visitors, however, choose to head to Bangsar on the outskirts of town. This stretch of hip bars, and restaurants attracts a mainly expat crowd and is often referred to as the Kweiloh Lumpur (or the “Foreigner Lumpur”). Getting to and from Bangsar is not a problem – taxis are plentiful.
For a taste of traditional KL nightlife, head to one of the many night markets throughout the city. It’s how locals in this medical tourism center tend to spend their nights - shopping, eating, and people- watching the evening away.
