Subway System and Trains

The local subway system, called “subtes,” is the fastest and most reliable mode of travel in Buenos Aires. It links the outskirts and downtown with 80 stations spread over 46km of track. The main medical centers and hotels are easily accessible by these trains that offer comfortable travel for those on medical tourism vacations. The subway operates from 6 am till 10 pm, Monday to Friday, and from 6 am to 8 pm on weekends and holidays (the minimum fare is $0.70 US). Bus Service

Buses called micros or colectivos cover 150 routes throughout all parts of the city in the Greater Buenos Aires area. These are identifiable by their numbers and colors. Minimum fare is $0.80 they run 24/7, although late night trips are less frequent.

Taxi and Car Services

Buenos Aires has a fleet of 32,000 taxis that are available 24 hours a day. Taxis are painted black and have yellow roofs. You can either flag one down or call for one by phone. A taxi not engaged is identified by a red light inside that displays the word “libre.” Taxis carry a digital meter to display the fare depending on the distance traveled. The minimum rate is $ 2.60, and the increment for every 200 meters is $0.26.

Remises” are private cars that can be hired as taxis. These have to be booked by phone, and the rate depends on the distance to the destination (these are not usually metered). Taxis and “remises” are convenient for those who have medical treatment as an item on their tourism itinerary.

Rent-a-car companies hire cars to anyone above 21 years of age with a valid driver’s license and an international credit card. Charges range from $80 to $150 per day, depending on the type and make of the car.
