As a major medical tourism destination, Thailand is an industry leader with a history of drawing patients from the US, UK, Australia, and Canada for the shocking affordability of critical procedures like hip replacement or spinal fusion and cosmetic procedures like chin, breast, and buttocks augmentation surgeries.  The industry has grown significantly even without official US medical endorsement.  In fact, some US doctors oppose medical tourism for reasons including job security and doubts about the quality of care abroad.  Regardless of personal or professional opinion, the medical tourism train has left the station, and it can either help or hurt condition of health care in the US.  It’s time for the US to become part of the solution, by tapping into affordable medical care ranging from chin augmentation surgery to open heart surgery.
