So Many Dental Tourism Destinations…So Little Time

Dental Tourism Destinations Lure Vacationers

Going to the dentist is not as daunting a proposal today as it was even five years ago.  For today, to compensate for the pain and trauma, one can sail across tranquil backwaters, laze around on virgin beaches, trek in dense tropical forests, or relax at world class spas, after a dental appointment!  India, Singapore, South Africa, Brazil, and Thailand are just some of the choice medical vacation destinations that tourists head for when they want to brighten their smiles and relax.

Thailand Medical Vacations

Thailand is aggressively marketing itself as a medical vacation destination of repute.  It has, over the past few years, been the premier choice for American medical vacation enthusiasts. It is now exploring markets and targeting patients from other Western countries.  The cost of most dental procedures like dental veneers, root canal, fillings, and extractions are much cheaper when compared to countries in Europe and America.  The average cost of dental veneers in Thailand ranges between US$250 to US$400 per tooth.  Compare this to rates in the United States, where the cost of dental veneers, (porcelain) is about $1000 per tooth. In an attempt to woo medical vacation enthusiasts, Thailand’s International Medical Centre in Bangkok has started offering services in 26 languages and also has a special department for tourists from Japan.

Low Cost of Dental Veneers Adds to the Thrill of Vacations

Dental tourism destinations are going all out to get tourists to explore options in their countries.  While low costs, the thrill of seeing new countries, and opportunities for relaxation certainly are tempting, one must remember to do comprehensive background analyses of the doctors and hospitals.  Although medical and dental tourism have much to offer, there is no shortage of shady physicians and dentists who prey on unsuspecting tourists.
