Affordable Dental Care: Adding to the Medical Travel Portfolio

Since basic insurance policies and even a few extended policies generally don’t cover dental care, Western residents are faced with the prospect of paying high prices that eat away at their resources in the interest of maintaining dental hygiene.  However, with medical travel becoming ever more popular each year, affordable dental care is now within reach of many more individuals.  Some take trips to exotic lands like Thailand and the Philippines, while others cut travel costs further by simply going “next door.” Dental tourism has turned out to be a great attraction for Mexico, especially since the creation of forums for certified dentists whose practice is recognized by the government.   

The growing popularity of dental tourism was what spurred the government of Mexico to create these forums in order to increase confidence in the country’s facilities and dentists.  In keeping the public educated about reputable institutions, they were able to encourage greater enthusiasm for medical travel to Mexico.   

Medical Tourism Packages Encourage Greater Interest in Mexico

In 2005, USA Today reported that  

“a small but growing number of Americans, prompted by soaring medical costs and dwindling insurance benefits at home...are contributing to the rising popularity of ‘tooth tourism,’ a relatively young trend here, but part of a fast-growing global phenomenon in which travelers, typically from wealthier countries, visit less-developed nations for medical care mixed with vacation — all at cut-rate prices.”  

Medical tourism (and indeed dental tourism), have raised Mexico from simply a great tourist destination for vacationers and sun-worshippers to a holiday destination that also offers affordable healthcare.  Those interested in making the trip for one or more low-cost surgical procedures should, of course, do their research beforehand to ensure that they get the possible service from the most reputable hospitals and doctors.
