Affordable Infertility Treatments: Available in India
The frustration of being unable to conceive is often compounded by the cost of fertility treatments. Advances in medical science and technology have only worsened matters since much more technical expertise is required to conduct the procedures and tests. While childbirth is indeed priceless, few can afford the exorbitant costs associated with fertility treatments in many parts of the world.
This is one reason why many are flocking to…
Going to India for Your Hip Resurfacing?

Don’t want to spend the $35,000 to $45,000 required for an expensive hip replacement surgery? Don’t want to continue with the pain either? Receive hip resurfacing at a fraction of the price in exotic India. Hip resurfacing is a new approach to hip replacement that was pioneered in India. When you consider that a typical surgery in India might cost roughly $7,000, and the quality of care is comparable (if not better) to what you’d receive Stateside, it’s easy to see why the health vacation industry is booming in India. Some experts even suggest that India is cheaper than Thailand, the next most popular medical tourism destination.
But I Still Need Medical Tourism Insurance?
$7,000 is a much better price compared to $45,000, but it’s still too much for most people to pay. Most patients pay out of pocket and then try to have their insurance companies reimburse them. However, medical tourism insurance is sometimes hard to come by if the doctor is out of the network (or country). You’ll want to conduct plenty of research before taking the plunge.
Take the example of Anne Grant who received hip resurfacing surgery at the Apollo Group of Hospitals in Chennai. Her surgery bill came to $7,029. The cost of the implant placed in her hip was $2,475. The surgeon, Dr. Vijay Bose, received $1,028. The radiologist was paid $50, and the cardiologist received $11. Grant estimates a total cost of $11,600 including accommodations at a luxury resort for recuperating, as well as, airfare. Her insurance company contributed $5,300 towards the total bill.
Off on a Health Vacation to India!
Many hospitals and hotels in the larger “health vacation” industry make it a point to cater to medical tourists and their diverse “creature-comfort” needs. The Apollo Hospitals Group, for example, has numerous facilities designed specifically for the medical tourist. Hospital rooms are designed to look like hotel suites with flat screen plasma TV, electric beds, refrigerators with bottled water, dieticians who offer a choice in cuisine (local or continental), easily accessible nurses, and rigorous antiseptic procedures to prevent post surgical infections. And if you’re worried about accreditation, The Joint Commission International, an arm of the agency that accredits American hospitals, has accredited The Apollo Hospitals Group, meaning that the quality of care you’ll receive either matches or exceeds what you’d expect in the States.
