Medical Travel India: For Health and Happiness

India Medical Travel

In the beginning, there was no plan to promote medical travel to India.  Super specialty hospitals were erected for the sole purpose of treating local residents.  But as Westerners began catching wind of the competitive pricing, quality staff, superior training, and various tourism options, medical travel became a global phenomenon.  And once India realized this, the planning officially began.

There is no preferential pricing for foreign patients; they just pay what a local patient pays for the same procedure. It just so happens that the costs for quality treatment in India are simply more accessible for patients who hail from the USA, UK, and Canada.  However, low costs are not the only reason why medical travel to India has flourished in recent years.  The absence of waiting lists is a major draw.  And some are attracted by the range of treatments; many of which are unavailable in the West.  India realizes that its medical infrastructure can translate into big bucks.  Obviously health care providers and government officials have redoubled their efforts to weave medical travel into the country’s aggressive “Incredible India” campaign.

India Medical Tourism Package

First world treatment at third world rates is what a typical India medical tourism package offers.  The idea of paying only $10,000 instead of $200,000 (the cost in USA) for a heart valve replacement surgery is quite alluring. India medical tourism packages are comparable to the types of treatment you’d receive in the West, but for a fraction of the price.  And these savings are just for major procedures either.  The cost of Lasik eye surgery in the USA is around $3,700, whereas the surgery can be done for less than $1,000 in India.  Not only is the cost of Lasik eye surgery very affordable, but the quality of healthcare is also first rate.

For patients from the UK and Canada where healthcare is heavily subsidized, long wait times, red tape, and frustration usually abound.  Under these circumstances, it’s not difficult to see why medical tourism to India is really starting to take off.
