The Medical Tourism Vacation

Phyllis Bramm is searching for a temporary sanctuary from the harsh winter of New England. What better way to do so than to plan a vacation to Costa Rica. This is not a typical vacation, but one that also saves her a lot of money on the plastic surgery cost of a chin lift.  It is a new kind of vacation; one that is increasingly being called medical tourism. Dozens of companies are popping up to promote personal travel combined with health care for services like affordable laser hair removal, face lifts, and even heart surgery. “I’m saving three thousand dollars, and I’m going to get a vacation out of it,” Phyllis says.

Medical Tourism in Costa Rica

Richard Feldman, the founder of the company Medical Tourism of Costa Rica explains, “We arrange everything.”  Patients no longer have to find reputable doctors on their own; the company cashing in on medical tourism does it for you, even going as far as scheduling your appointments.

“Lipo, tummy tuck, breast augmentation - we offer whatever is available in the American health care system, at the same quality, but at a fraction of the cost,” says Feldman. Plastic surgery costs are heavily discounted. All kinds of procedures can be arranged: knee replacement in Thailand, angioplasty in India, and affordable laser hair removal in Costa Rica. Tate Wolf just returned from Costa Rica after receiving dental implants, which would have cost $26,000 in the U.S., for an unbeatable $7,000. Tate believed the healthcare was comparable to the United States. The question is though, can it really be called a vacation when you spend hours under the surgeon’s knife or in a dentist’s chair?  Some people close to Phyllis question her reasoning, but she feels it’s worth a try; understanding that experts warn patients to plan for unforeseen circumstances. Why not save a bundle on plastic surgery cost and affordable laser hair removal, while lounging on the beach of your five-star hotel?
