Malaysia’s Newest Dental Hospital

Vinayaka Mission’s University in India announced at a press conference recently that they will invest heavily in the construction and administration of Penang International Dental College (PIDC) in Malaysia.  Construction on the expensive facility began only a few months ago, but the medical tourism industry is abuzz with expectations.  Once completed, PIDC will be one of the biggest dental training facilities in South East Asia, providing medical students with the last three years of their clinical training.  It will boast 250 dental chairs in its state-of-the-art facility.  Construction is expected to be completed by September 2010.

Malaysia:  New Hub for Dental Tourism?

Dr S. Sharayanan, PIEDC chief executive officer and managing director, said at a press conference recently that PIDC has the potential to further develop Malaysia as a major medical tourism destination.  He hopes that Penang will be made into a regional hub for dental treatment and study.  According to Sharayanan, foreigners already come in scores to Malaysia to take advantage of the low costs of everything from dental bridges to tooth veneers, as well as low plastic surgery prices, procedures that can cost up to 50% more in the UK.
