Affordable Infertility Treatments: Available in India
The frustration of being unable to conceive is often compounded by the cost of fertility treatments. Advances in medical science and technology have only worsened matters since much more technical expertise is required to conduct the procedures and tests. While childbirth is indeed priceless, few can afford the exorbitant costs associated with fertility treatments in many parts of the world.Â
This is one reason why many are flocking to…
Health Vacations Extend Reach of Medical Care
These days, you can have just about anything your way. Plastic surgeons have long since extended that ideology to the human body. In the past, however those procedures were often reserved—by price—for the wealthy. To have a nose job or facelift, you had to be rich, a celebrity, or both. In the past decade, medical tourism companies have expanded the reach of plastic surgery and other health care options both economically and geographically. With health vacations, patients can now travel farther and pay less to have their bodies customized.
Medical Tourism Companies Cash in on Sex Appeal
Not only have medical tourism companies extended the range of locations for health care, but they have also helped increase the range of services provided as well. Thailand, one of the world’s leaders in plastic surgery, hosts health vacations at discounted prices compared to US health care costs. One procedure that is quickly rising in popularity and in cost (in the US) is labiaplasty, a type of female genital surgery that reduces enlarged labia. According to 2005 estimates, the procedure in the US cost $5,000 and increased 20% in 2006. Thailand offers labiaplasty for under $500, which includes most medical fees, anesthesia, and follow-up care.Â
Cost of Labiaplasty Not All Monetary
Certainly medical tourism companies offer a remedy to the increasing cost of labiaplasty.  However, not all the costs associated with the procedure have a cash value. Childbirth is the greatest contributor to overstretched labia that don’t seem to return to their original shape. For most women, the excess skin and tissue doesn’t pose a medical concern. The problems are frequently matters of discomfort, where the long or enlarged labia create rubbing during exercise or intercourse. In rare cases, the condition could lead to infection or more serious problems, but for most women, irritation is the worst case scenario. Still, not everyone’s convinced that looking your best means alterations are in order. In New York, protests have received international attention. Women dressed in vulva costumes recently demonstrated their outrage at calling the procedure "genital mutilation." Their arguments are against the labiaplasty itself, regardless of where you have it.Â
