What Is Facial Line Filling?

Facial line filling (aka wrinkle filling), restores youthful appearances by literally filling in wrinkles with injected substances (often hyaluronic acid).  For those patients who can’t afford the time and money required for a face lift, facial line filling may be ideal.  Some fillings take only 30 minutes, and they can last up to a year or more between treatments.

Where some injections relax the skin, facial line injections literally fill the skin out.  They combine the confidence of a youthful appearance with the convenience of annual to semi-annual refilling.  The most popular type of facial line filling is hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in connective tissue.  Current studies may determine if the injections can actually stimulate the body’s collagen production.  Synthetic fillers typically last longer and can even be permanent.  However, the longer the filler lasts, the greater the risk of side effects.

One drawback to facial line filling is the risk of an allergic reaction.  Some patients break out under the skin.  Others may develop a bluish color change in the skin around the injection site that can last for months.  In rare cases, the reaction could result in death.  It is imperative that facial line filling patients seek a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon to perform the procedure.
