In two previous sections (Accreditation & Malpractice), we address healthcare safety and medical malpractice concerns. In this section, we cover various travel safety tips and concerns.

There are many considerations that go into planning a safe and successful vacation, and this section is by no means exhaustive. But hopefully it will address some of the questions you might have about the relative safety of whatever medical tourism destinations you plan to visit during your health vacation. For a more comprehensive list of considerations, you should consult your travel agent, guide book, and your home country’s travel advisory site.
Make sure that you read through the following pages carefully. A successful hip operation or heart treatment will do you little good if you fall victim to one of the many travel pitfalls that affect so many vacationers. Malaria, pickpockets, deep venous thrombosis, food poisoning are just a few of setbacks that can quickly transform a great vacation into an awful experience. Is all your paperwork in order? Do you know the emergency contact phone numbers for your hospital, family, hotel, and local authorities? Do you have copies of your passport handy? Do you know the going rate for taxis in this medical tourism destination? These are the types of things you should know before you even get on the plane. These are the types of questions this section was designed to answer.
