Even if you don’t have coverage at home, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you are ineligible for health insurance.  Before opting to finance any procedures with your own savings, there are a few options that you should consider.  Some medical tourists phone ahead to their preferred destinations to find out what (if any) insurance companies they do partner with.  Alternatively, you might explore the numerous expat and travel insurance firms out there.  Keep in mind, however, that most health insurance companies won’t be too eager to take on someone who is “definitely” going to require medical assistants in the foreseeable future.  But it’s worth a shot.  The US Department of State has compiled a brief list of expat insurance companies and travel insurance companies that are worth looking into.  This list is slanted towards American travelers, but can serve as a useful starting point in your research, no matter where you're from.

Rates, terms, regions, and services vary, so make sure you find a package that suits your specific needs.  And of course, always finalize any details in writing.  The last thing you want is to come back from a successful medical vacation only to find that you’re responsible for the full cost of the trip in addition to the cost of whatever policy you took out.
