Getting Around in Singapore

  • Turkey Becoming Synonymous with Saving Money

Shortages in affordable health care are driving dental patients overseas, where bedside manners, optimal technology solutions, and rock-bottom prices await.  In addition to the low cost and high quality of highly sought after dental procedures like laser teeth whitening, patients find short lines and top quality in places like Turkey, one of Europe’s top dental tourism destinations.

    Dental Work, Then Medical Vacation

The term medical vacation comes from the exotic locations of many medical and dental tourism destination countries like Singapore,…

Taxis

These are cheap and provide a convenient way of getting around for the medical tourism visitor in Singapore.  They are also frequently available outside taxi stands and hotels or can be flagged down on a street.  Fare is by the meter and includes a standard fare plus additional charges depending on your destination and the time of day.  There’s an extensive list of surcharges that may be levied on your fare, but even so, taxis here are cheap compared to many other world cities.  Plus, drivers are incredibly (surprise surprise) professional (if not always friendly) and efficient.  Besides these basic taxi services, there are also the premier taxis that promise a more luxurious ride and come with features like more legroom, a CD player, and impressive livery.

Mass Rapid Transport System (MRT)

The Singapore Mass Rapid Transit System is one of the most efficient and reliable in the world. Trains arrive and leave almost around the clock and ply the main stretches of the island. Fares are displayed prominently at stations, and you can purchase these in the form of an EZ-link card. These cards allow you to decide their value, making them perfect for a medical tourism vacationer who intends to travel frequently. If not, you can always purchase the standard tickets for single use only.  Trains in Singapore are strictly no-smoking and no-eating zones.

Buses

These go virtually everywhere on the island, and fares are very affordable. As with the MRT, buses also offer EZ- link cards for medical tourism guests and other frequent travelers.  They can be slow however, and drivers are not always the most personable of people.  But they are the cheapest ways of getting around in Singapore, and during peak hours, premier mini buses service some of the more popular points.

Car Rentals

Unless you absolutely must drive yourself to every clinic and hospital on your medical tourism vacation, avoid these - insanely expensive (about 140 dollars a day), and not worth it if you don’t know traffic rules.  Plus, parking can be a nightmare.
